Fall Newletter
September 3, 2010
Wow, the new sites have rented out amazingly fast, beyond our expectations! We have only 12 left as of this date. Welcome to all our new Leisure Seasonals! Let’s hope for the Best Weather Ever for the summer of 2011.
Thanks to everyone for your patience with construction of the pool, the new sites and all our other issues over the season. It’s been a very challenging year with more water coming out of the ground than we ever thought possible. One of the locals has been keeping track of rainfall and we are over 26 inches so far – the most he can ever recall, a record-breaking year for sure. A special Thank You to our hard-working staff who were constantly re-doing jobs all summer long. It was frustrating but boy do things look good!
Hallowe’en was especially haunting this year – wasn’t that the most spectacular Haunted House! Thank you so much to Lori & Sarah & helpers for that big effort! And if that wasn’t enough, the Kid’s Amazing Race is going to be awesome! Meeting at the Activity Center on Sat. (Sept. 4) at 1:00pm & lasting most of the afternoon (see posters).
Sunday, Sept. 5th is the Wind-Up Dinner & Dance. Still a handful of tickets left for the 5:30 sitting-see posted signs for more info. And our Biggest Thank You! to the Social Committee, small but mighty they have taken on a number of events over the season and are the reason the Wind-up party is so reasonably priced. Please give them a personal thank you when you see them next, they deserve it. And think about how you can help next year – ideas, planning, staging an event or just helping out. Leisure is what you make it!
Oops, almost forgot the Vendor’s Market is also on Sunday, 10am-3pm!
So, contracts have all been either handed out or mailed. Please be sure to read through everything carefully as it is important to us that you are not disappointed because of being un-informed. Both parties must sign, initial and return to the registration office prior to Sept. 15th with deposit. Please note that the registration office moves from the gatehouse to the Leisure Centre after the Sept. long weekend. Seasonal “Wish List” to move sites is renewed every fall – so if you still want to change, be sure to let us know (one move per season). The Question & Answer guide is a good source for more details on this and many other important points. The Q & A is updated every spring as we react to the needs and concerns of our customers.
Our Snack Bar closes after the Sept. long, but the store stays open until the end with limited services and hours. You will notice that as the September days get shorter, so do our hours – they are posted weekly or call toll free 1-866-886-8585 for an update.
Important Dates to Remember:
September 15 (Wed.) – Signed contracts and deposits are due to reserve your site for the 2011 season. This deposit is non-refundable and is only applied to your fees if site is paid in full by April 1st (unless you are on the monthly payment plan). Also note that if the deposit is not paid by the due date, the site becomes available for rent. You may however, leave your RV on site until Sept. 29th.
Sept. 12 (Sun.) – All boats/boat trailers must be off your site and stored in the new compound on the west side of the park. Please be sure you have current tags (or prior gatehouse approval) to avoid being moved at your expense.
Sept. 18 (Sat.) – Dave & helpers will be taking boatlifts out of the water starting at 10:00 am weather permitting. The cost is $50 if you are there, an additional $50 if you are not. A BBQ will be held afterwards for those present. If it is too windy, they will try for Sunday.
Sept. 19 (Sun.) – Boats moved out of all slips & into storage compound. Gazebo covers to be taken down.
Sept. 22 (Wed.) – Water is off and water lines will be blown out and shut down.
Sept. 26 (Sun) – GPW Water coolers returned to store – they are located in Red Deer should you miss this return date.
Sept. 29. (Wed) – Last night! Gates locked the next day!
RV Close Down Notes – be certain RV is unplugged from the electrical outlet, that you disconnect water hoses and “Y’s” from tap and store your flexible sewer hoses. Site must be left clean & tidy. If we have to clean your site there will be a bill waiting for you in the spring. BBQ’s may be left on site if they are locked to your RV. Do not leave out solar lights, lawn décor, furniture, bikes, toys etc. Store everything in your shed or RV or take home. We get wicked winds during the winter and trust us on this; your stuff could be wrecked or gone by spring!
Well that’s about it folks. Lastly you may want to know that we are returning for another season, with the hard work on the development done, we hope to enjoy a slower pace in 2011!
Have a great winter,
Rick & Deb.

So the BIG NEWS is that the SWIMMING POOL is OPEN and it is STUNNING! Yep, all the approvals & construction finally done and while we still have a few finishing touches, the kids are having a wonderful time. PARENTS! Please be sure to read over the signs posted at the pool and make sure your kids understand them too. In addition please note:
*1. No Lifeguard on duty. Swimming is at your own risk.
*2. An adult MUST accompany all children under the age of 14.
*3. Read the rules. Parents please talk to your children about vandalism; we simply will not tolerate it – see your contract for the consequences as they are significant.
*4. WRIST BAND DAY!! – When this sign is posted, wrist bands will be required and are available at the registration office only. Anyone without a band will be asked to leave.
*5. Pool Hours are 10 am to 8 pm. Adult swim is 11am to Noon.
PARKING: The layout of the parking lot is being worked out so please just follow the signs as they appear and don’t be surprised if there are changes. Pavement area in front of store is a Loading Zone Only. Thanks!
TAGS PLEASE: While at the moment we are allowing boats & boat trailers on site where possible, you MUST have tags on them. Be courteous – DO NOT use someone else’s boat slip. Tents also must have a current tag. Tags available at the gatehouse office only.
NEW SITES: Now that the pool is done, the new most frequently asked question is “When are the new sites going to be ready?” Rick says if we could have 16 dry days we’d almost be there. Our wait list is growing with about 30 who have given a deposit and around 25 who just want to be notified; we are excited and pleased about that. A site map is being drawn up to facilitate site selection which will happen as soon as we have pedestals (with site numbers) in place so you can actually stand on the site and have a look around. We will have lots of details on this just after the long weekend. Remember if you are thinking about moving to a different site you must have your wish list of site numbers to the girls in the gatehouse office (you can also put your name down to move to the new sites at the same time).
2011: Parkbridge has determined the rates, so details and the contract will be available in a couple of weeks. But the answer to the most asked question… to get the 2011 site rate, simply add the winter storage of $220 to your site price and increase by 5%. New site prices are $2900 to $3500 plus $200 meter deposit (no extra fridge charge and price includes winter storage).
POWER/WATER ONLY SITES: Please remember to stop on your way out and let us know if you need your tanks emptied. L’il Jon’s has requested you call by NOON on WED so they know what size truck is needed.
Just a reminder regarding site improvements; that if the park needs access to something (like a sewer pipe) and you have a gazebo or deck or shed on top of it, you must either move it yourself promptly or bear the cost of park employees moving it for you.
An Unbelievable Ski Event is scheduled for Aug 9-11. Take a lesson from world renowned professionals – Geno Yauchler holds the Guiness World Record of 826 Flips in One Hour on the Hydrofoil (Ski-Chair). And Angela Yauchler is a professional show skier, Trick Ski, Barefoot, Wakeboard and the list goes on…Learn from the Best – see details in the store!
Joining the First Annual Leisure Golf Tournament? Remember to pay at the store & choose your meal. Sign up until August 4th – looks like about 36 golfers so far…more info on calendar side.
From ACTIVITIES: So our famous Hallowe’en festivities are in the works and the girls would love to get some parent help and donations – decorations and props mostly, we can just borrow them so you’ll have them for October!!
SEPTEMBER LONG WEEK-END PREVIEW: Saturday the 4th is the Amazing Wrap Up Party for the Kids and you guessed it…it’s an Amazing Race! Children must sign up for this event and parent volunteers are needed at each station. Please sign up at the store.
Sunday the 5th is the End of Season Wind-Up Party!! The social club has been fund raising to subsidize the meal and pay for the band (Parkbridge is putting up half). Watch for more details of this really fun social event coming up soon…
Management & Staff Thank You for Listening
July 8th Update - Sites, Pool & Other Stuff.....
July 8, 2010
RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY! We have had MAYBE 4 days without it, the ground is totally waterlogged and we are all growing webbed feet. Here’s hoping summer is just around the corner…
NEW SITES: Of course the weather is playing havoc with our timelines, so our new target is the end of July - with a little cooperation from the heavens above! In preparation for choosing sites, if anyone has changed their mind on moving, please call us so we can update our list. As soon as the pedestals are in with site numbers, we’ll be calling those who are on the list for their site choices (the deadline date will be known by this time). Seniority rules and once everyone has chosen, we will release their site numbers so that other seasonals can do their moves & changes. Lastly we will contact our outside waitlist which is growing nicely. Whew! It’s going to be a little hectic, so please be patient!!
SWIMMING POOL: Isn’t the pool looking awesome? We know it’s kind of a tease but - Salt, Salt, Salt! The boys are doing the balancing act and learning lots of chemistry. Meanwhile the mechanical room will be done by the weekend, then the shower will be put in, the fence is next week then we’ll be looking for our approvals from the Health Board and finally it’ll be time to jump in the pool! So 2 weeks? Max?
We only have ONE seasonal site left! A really great response since opening…and with lots of new seasonals with children, may we take this opportunity to remind you to drive with care and SLOWLY! Parents, please take the time to read the rules to your children and be sure everyone understands them. ie: under 18, must be on site by 11pm unless accompanied by an adult, no motorized carts (yes, this means children’s little toy cars) – we have enough trouble watching out for kids on bikes and feet without worrying about carts…and the vandalism rule…
Q & A Guide – it’s all in there, please pick one up at the gatehouse…and speaking of picking up – 24 people still have either car passes/tags or boat tags at the gatehouse. Are you one of them? If you don’t have a tag for the car, boat, boat trailer please come and get one!
TENTS: this one definitely needs some clarification. Bottom line is that you must always, always have a current tent tag. Children living at home may not have to pay but they still need a tag. Otherwise it is $25.00 for a tent on site. We encourage you to have your guests use the group area – our goal is not to have over-usage of the site so if you have a tent up all the time, we will be asking you to change this habit. Sorry, but we will not hesitate to revoke this privilege when necessary.
VISITORS – Seasonals, since you are responsible for your visitors, we figure you are not going to want to be responsible for their visitors. So only you as the seasonal may have visitors. Don’t forget to get your guest list to the gatehouse so we don’t charge them…
FROM SECURITY: Late night noise problems? If you seriously have a problem, call the main office number 1-886-886-8585 and listen to the message to hear the security cell number and they will come deal with it. We lost a prop last week so please be mindful that we all need to be aware of protecting our property – keep your eyes open and use your neighborhood watch skills and keep us informed.
LASTLY: It has come to our attention that the washroom on the west hill near the 400’s has been taking a lot of abuse and since we feel it totally unfair to ask anyone to clean up after this kind of mess we will be considering closing it at 11:00 pm. If you know of another way to handle this situation please have a word with Deb.
Looking for the Sun… Rick & Deb

Events & Activities
July Long – it’s finally arrived! Our Canada Day Parade will be held on Saturday July 3rd – parent’s please have your kid’s at the Activities center at 7pm, the parade will begin at 7:30 and end up at the Bonfire at 8pm.
Welcome Sarah who will take over in Activities with Lori (thanks Annie for your help in planning). There are certainly some interesting events & activities planned this year from massage to parades, beach bonfires to talent shows by the kids. We are still working on a few more things and then of course the swimming pool will be a fabulous addition as well. There has been some interest in organizing a golf tournament with all Leisure participants. Email us if you are interested – if there is enough interest, it will most likely take place in early August. Finally, if you’d like to take part in a weekly card night, please let us know at the store.
Looking for a Massage? Paula King is Back!

Massages will be running every Wednesday starting July 7th until August 25th. There will be 2 morning and 3 afternoon appointments available. Cost of the massages is $70 which includes GST. Payment is due upon registration. Please register at the store.
A note from Rick & Deb
Our Construction Update Newsletter is out – posted in the store & gatehouse and will be online early this week. We know putting up with the disruption is not fun, but the end result is certainly worth the inconvenience. One of which is that our staff are pitching in on the pool so they are not able to get to the requests for gravel etc. Please help yourself to a wheelbarrow full of whatever is in the bins at the shop.
We have one seasonal site left and our wait list for the new sites is growing! It will be a big summer at Leisure with lots of new people. As the Leisure community expands we will experience some growing pains, but some common sense with a little friendliness & respect will provide a safe & supportive environment for everyone for years to come.
Our Leisure team is almost complete. We have an opening for one more part/time security/public relations person. Please note this does note necessarily mean late nights and can be as little as a couple of shifts a week. Please stop by and see Deb or email info@pinelakeleisureclub
From Leisure Watersports: Hours of Operation are 8:30 am – 8:30 pm for Rentals & Gas. Check out some New Rates and remember they have paddle boats for the kids! Stop by and catch up with the new owners, Brenda & Dwayne, Justin & Brett.
From Security: Parents! We understand how great it is to arrive and let the kids out of the car and off they go. But, there are still lots of ways they can get into trouble, so be sure you educate them on all the rules & safety first!

Construction Update
June 29, 2010
WOW! The construction of the pool and sites is really taking shape. We have the privilege of working with some outstanding people on this project & the Leisure staff are helping out as well. It’s truly amazing to see how it all comes together, so much planning, so many details – not to mention the impossible weather conditions that have put us about 2 weeks behind…we need about 18 days of dry weather. In the meantime, we know it is a hassle to have to walk further to the beach & docks & that parking is at a premium. Please be patient, be understanding and be happy with our efforts to upgrade the park. We assure you it will be worth it!
Once we have a firm date on when the sites will be ready to move to, we will be able to set the pricing for the balance of the season. Details are being worked out now on the plan for site choices. There was some discussion on Parkbridge selling Destination RV’s on site however this is not going to happen this year. Our boss was here yesterday & confirmed that the new sites will be metered. So electricity is additional to the site price - you will only pay for what you use. Lastly, they want a minimum size of 30’ for the RV’s on the front row. The swimming pool will not be open July Long unless we have a miracle – although we will be very close, we still need the go ahead from Alberta Health to open. We’re working on signage, hours of operation, rules etc. A seasonal has come forward with an interest in teaching aerobics Saturday mornings. So lots to think about!
Gates soon to come down…please be aware of the office hours at the gatehouse – Monday to Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday & Saturday 9am-10pm. You will need your swipe card to gain entrance to the park when the office is closed. The alternative is that you will have to walk to your site. Visitors coming after hours will also be walking in. We have signs up and will let people know at the gatehouse. So remember, put those cards in your vehicles!
Lastly, we are sorry that we simply could not get to some of the requests for dirt or gravel. Please help yourself to what is available in the bins by the shop. It is our hope that you can fend for yourselves using some old-fashioned ingenuity and/or neighborly help.
We are currently working on the July newsletter and Activities Calendar. It will be ready by the end of the weekend and posted next week along with this one. Remember to check the website & read past issues to get up to speed. The Question & Answer Guide is available at the office and will save you lots of time & aggravation! We understand time is at a premium in our hectic lives so don’t hesitate to ask us at the office, we will certainly do our best to help.
Thank you for your patience and get ready for a great summer!
Deb & Rick and all the Leisure Staff.
The Pool is Under Construction!
June 18, 2010
Here we go the construction on the pool has started and amazing enough the contractor says it should be up and running in in 3 weeks. But then again they are from down east and have not ever had to deal with Alberta weather. Oh well we will keep our fingers crossed. Everyone should have fun watching construction from Leisure deck.
Pine Lake Kids Stuff
June 10, 2010
Hello from Sara and Lori!
Welcome to the Pine Lake Children’s Activities Centre! Lori and Annie have been very busy planning all the activities this summer! We are looking forward to meeting all the children and families in our community.
This year, we will be running week long themes with lots of fun crafts and activities for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under are welcome to join us with a parent. Parent or teen volunteers are always welcome and needed.
Let’s Go Green! To help us with this initiative, we are going to request your help in collecting household items such as; jars, egg cartons*toilet/paper towel rolls, newspapers, magazines, 2L pop bottles, shoe boxes, small juice boxes, coffee tins, bottle caps, tin cans, Halloween decorations and recycled paper (8.5X11 sheets that are blank on one side).
Also on our wish list is a donation of a small book shelf and a gently used rug that we can use in our library and during Story Time.
Save a tree! We will be printing limited numbers of this newsletter/calendar. Please refer to the online calendar and a copy of this newsletter will be posted at the Community Centre and outside of the Activities Centre.
We will start everything off on July 2nd where we will be making Canada Day crafts in preparation for our Canada Day Parade on Saturday July 3rd! Our season will end September 4th with a year end event.
Because this is new to us, and this is the first year that the park is all seasonal, we are trying to get a feel for how many kids will be participating in the activities. We are asking kids or their parents to sign the sign up sheet outside the activity center if they plan on attending during the summer. This way we can get an idea of how many supplies to purchase and have prepared.
Come join us at the Children’s Activity Centre for lots of fun this summer!
Extra, Extra Activities
Story Time: New to this year’s children’s activities is Story Time! Every Wednesday from 7:00—7:30, come dressed in your pajamas and enjoy stories or songs and other surprises! For all those budding authors, feel free to come share your story or if you would like to be a guest reader, let us know!
Movie Nights: Come join us Friday nights at 7:00 in the Activity Centre for movies. For $2.00 you can buy a drink and popcorn.
June Update From the Social Committee
June 10, 2010
Meet and Greet
Wow…… Our first social event of the season was pretty much a success. We were pleased and overwhelmed by how many people participated in the meet and greet potluck dinner……and all the great food that was prepared! It doesn’t matter how well you plan, there is always a few snags, which of course we had. Some families showed up that had not RSVP with us, and even though we were thrilled to see everyone, we had some issues with not enough seating, and the last groups eating did not get any of the hot entrees. We sincerely apologize to anyone who was disappointed by this, and hope that most had a good time. Please do not let this discourage you from coming to future events. This is the first year for a social committee at Leisure, and we are learning. One of the things that we have learned is that we need more help. There is only 4 of us on this committee and would appreciate any volunteers that would be willing to give us a hand. Please email Kim at dkcole@platinum.ca or phone 403-936-5574 for more info.
Raffle
Congratulations to the couple in site 413 who won the raffle. Thanks to all the campers who participated in the raffle which really helped the social committee get a good start on the social fund. After all money was tallied and a few minor expenses paid out, we made $611. Many thanks to Parkbridge, for donating the money to purchase our first raffle prize of the year. All money raised will help subsidize our year end family wind up party scheduled for September Long weekend.
Horse Racing
The horse races went well and fun was had by all who participated. Thanks to Todd for his help in running the races. They started a little late because of the dinner, which brings us to one of our first learning experiences: In the future we will run the horse races on their own and not with any other events. You can watch for the next races which are set for July 17. We are looking forward to Captain John being back to help, which always makes for an entertaining night of horse racing.
Upcoming
Don’t forget about the bake sale and vendors’ market on June 19th. The market will run from 10am-3pm and the bake sale will be starting at noon. The bake sale is being offered by the social committee and all money raised will go towards the social fund. Anyone that can help out and donate baked goods, please contact Kim at dkcole@platinum.ca . The bottle drive is also set for that weekend on Sunday, June 20. The social committee will be driving around in the early afternoon to collect donations. If you are leaving early or don’t want us knocking on your door please leave your bagged bottles at the end of your drive way for us to pick up. Make sure to always check the web site for any event updates or changes. If you have any ideas, suggestions or concerns regarding the social committee, or if you think you can volunteer a few hours to help us out, please contact Kim at dkcole@platinum.ca or 403-607-0895.
June Newsletter
June 8, 2010
Weather would be the number one challenge for the construction area as the rain continues to fall. We do expect the pool package to be delivered sometime this week. Rick will do an update when he has some news...It has been too wet to paint picnic tables so as soon as they dry out enough the boys will get them done and placed. Some boat trailers have been moved to the west side of the park to create more room. If your boat trailer is locked, come and see us at the office.
Jobs! We are almost there with just two openings left. One position is working with Barry in Security/PR, some day shifts and some night shifts. One position in the store – must be of age to sell liquor - about 4 shifts per week. Please call Deb (toll free number is 1-866-886-8585) or email info@pinelakeleisureclub.com
Registration is in the Leisure Centre until Father’s Day weekend when they move up to the gatehouse for summer. All tags and cards are ready for pick up. This being our first year for all seasonal, we will be experimenting with hours a bit so please read signs posted in the Leisure Centre for this information. We have some cabin rentals now available weekly so if you know someone who may be interested, have them call that toll free number.
Wanda is cooking on the weekends – Friday 5–9, Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 9-3. All food is cooked fresh to order – breakfasts, BLT & Denver sandwiches, burgers, fries, chicken fingers to start & coming in July some appetizers for those unplanned happy hours!
Father’s Day weekend is the kick-off for some Kids Activities & the first Vendor’s Market. The girls are almost ready to unveil their calendar so watch for that coming up in the next few days.
I would like to thank our volunteer Social Club for their great efforts to put on the first ever Meet & Greet. And what a success, the attendance was super and with many drop in guests, planning is quite the challenge. This is an opportunity for you to help out with upcoming events! Watch for their update...
Massage on Wednesdays beginning July 7th–signup sheet is in the store. Welcome back Paula King, who is a registered massage therapist trained in Therapeutic, Relaxation & Ayurevedic massage techniques. Many of you already know how talented she is & as a member of NHPC, she is qualified to treat clients for insurance purposes.
Recycle Bin – located at the entrance – I saw someone throwing a water cooler box (unflattened) into a garbage bin, so obviously not everyone knows about the program. Please help out by flattening cardboard & disposing in the recycle bin.
Water cooler’s still available for rent in the store. Canwest 403-347-5544 is who you call for propane (they come Friday afternoon’s so be sure to call ahead). We still also have some picnic tables for sale $25.00 plus gst. Painted and stamped with your site number. Internet is available through Wispernet. Planting guide, boater’s guide, Question & Answer guide all available at the Office.
Update on rules: there were two rules that we spoke with the owner’s regarding whether there could be any change. The one shed per site rule remains unchanged. So if you happen to have two sheds on site, please take one away. Regarding leaving your sides down on gazebos has been lifted. You may leave the sides down – keep in mind that a gazebo is to be used as a dining tent or sitting area – not as storage or for an extra sleeping unit.
One rule that has not changed is the Zero Tolerance Vandalism rule (see your contract). Sometimes kids are just being kids but we encourage you as parents to sit down with them and have a talk about what activities they may think is harmless stuff but is actually vandalism. Please contact us with any questions. Be proactive!
Got a suggestion? We do have a box in the store if you’d like to share... Got a concern? Talk to Deb – the girls can set up a time... Got a compliment? Post it on the bulletin board...
Thanks and let’s hope for some summer weather! Deb & Rick
From the Social Committee
May 7, 2010
After one meeting, several phone calls and many e-mails, the social committee is slowly but surely getting a plan together for the upcoming camping season. The goal of our committee is to provide some fun adult/family events, while also raising money to help subsidize our year end family wind up party scheduled for September Long weekend. Some events you can look forward to this summer are the horse races, meet and greet potluck supper, stampede breakfast, beach bonfires with entertainment, our usual kids Halloween weekend and a chili cook off. And for the fund raising you will see some raffles, bottle drives and bake sales. The social committee has been working hard to round up donations, raffle and door prizes. If are able to help with donations either through your work or maybe through someone you know please contact Kim at dkcole@platinum.ca or 403-607-0895.
Raffle Draw
The first thing that you will see happening is a raffle that we will start selling tickets for on the weekend of May 15 and 16th. The committee will be coming around selling tickets on a double andarandak chair that has an attached table in the middle. Very comfortable to sit in and is perfect for relaxing and catching a few rays. The value is $120 and tickets will be $2 each or 6 for $10. Tickets will also be available for purchase during the Potluck Dinner. The draw will then be made after dinner. Thanks to Parkbridge for donating the money to purchase our first raffle prize of the season.
Meet and Greet Potluck Dinner - May long weekend – Sunday 23rd
We have planned a Meet and Greet Potluck dinner to be held upstairs in the Leisure Center. This is a great way for everyone to get together and a great opportunity to meet many of the new seasonals that have joined our park. Each family attending is asked to bring one dish from the following list and to please RSVP to Kim (dkcole@platinum.ca or 403-607-0895) with what you will be bringing and how many family members will attend. This will help us to make sure we have enough seating as well as a balanced menu. We have listed a few examples, but please feel free to bring whatever you would like to make.
*Appetizers – such as: wings, meat balls, deviled eggs, cheese and crackers
*Hot Entrees – such as: Chili, casseroles, lasagna, perogies, cabbage rolls
*Salads – such as: green, potato, bean, macaroni, caesar
*Buns - bags of a dozen
*Dessert – such as: cookies, loaves, cake, squares, brownies
Each dish should feed approximately 10 people. Doors will be open at 5:30pm, hopefully eating by 6:00pm. The Bar will be open through dinner.
Horse Racing
Following dinner we will be holding our famous horse races, run by Capt. John. These races have always been great fun in the past, so don’t forget your quarters to place your bets. This time we will be adding a twist by selling off the horses before the races start. Each horse will be sold for $5 which will allow you to name the horse and a chance at winning part of the grand prize pot at the end. Kids are welcome to stay and watch but are not allowed to place bets. If you are not participating in the potluck dinner please feel free to join us for the races which start at 7pm. The bar will be open for this event.
Bottle Drive – June 20
The social Committee will be holding a bottle drive on Sunday June 20th. All money collected from this will go to the social fund and will help subsidizing our year end wind up party. We will be driving around in the early afternoon to collect donations. If you are leaving early or don’t want us knocking on your door please leave your bagged bottles at the end of your drive way for us to pick up. All other weekends please feel free to leave your bottles in the recycling barrels located near each garbage bin. Those bottles are collected by the Leisure staff and the money is used to sponsor a Foster Parents Plan family. Pictures and information of the family that Leisure sponsors is located on the bulletin board at the store.
Construction Zone - Please Note
Leisure staff has been working hard to build the new campsites just west of the Leisure Center. However, it has been noticed that people are walking through and kids have been playing in the construction zone. There is large equipment and digging happening…and it is not safe…even when there is no one working. Please do not enter this area! Parents keep your kids safe, make sure they are not playing or riding bikes in the gated off areas.
Make sure to always check the web site for any event updates or changes and if you have any comments, suggestions or concerns regarding any of the social committee activities please contact Kim at: dkcole@platinum.ca or 403-607-0895.
THE ICE IS OUT!
April 26, 2010
The ice went out around 11:00 am on the 20th of April. We know you are all “chomping at the bit” to be out here and enjoying the spring. So seasonals; you can come out as early as this Friday however only the power is on - no water, no sewer. The washrooms will be open at the Leisure Center and the store/office is open until 8pm that evening, 9-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday. We will have the store mostly stocked with groceries, milk, pop, liquor, ice etc. GPW will have water coolers for you to rent ($50.00 plus gst for the season) as well as jugs of water. Please note that the snack bar is not open until May 17th.
Construction Update: The sewer is almost done on the new 88 sites. The plan is to start the water & electrical trenching May 1st. So we are definitely a construction zone on the west side of the park. DO NOT DRIVE OR WALK THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE!! The 400’s gate will be open for you to drive to your site. To walk to the Leisure Center, please walk on the service road to the main gate and down the hill. We understand this is an inconvenience, but it is a safety issue so please cooperate.
Picnic Tables: You can pay for a table at the office and before the May long weekend one will be delivered to your site. All tables will be painted and stamped with a site number prior to delivery.
Water & Sewer: We are hoping to have this on throughout the whole park by Friday, May 7th.
New Schedule “B”: We have redone this to reflect new policies on family and friends, so we will be asking you to fill one out. Reservations for your family & friends can be made starting May 1st. Details will be provided at that time. Permit applications are available for decks, sheds, gazebo/dining tents and site improvements. There are changes in the rules with our new owners so please be sure to pick up a new Question & Answer Guide.
East Hill Sites: So far we have 6 new seasonals who will be calling the east hill their home. Some big sites have been made with the clearing out of old rotten trees. The work will continue for the next couple of weeks.
Jobs: Activities Director is still up for grabs, I plan to advertise next week if I don’t hear from any seasonals – remember this could be a shared position so if this interests you let Deb know. Also security – part-time hours available.
Thanks for you time, please let your seasonal friends know about the on-line newsletters as we plan to keep you up to date using the web. (Thanks to Kim!)

New Sewer Lines
April 15, 2010
New Sewer Lines Snow storm missed us by 10 km, so we started putting in sewer lines as of Monday. This should take about 2 weeks and then we start on electrical and water. We also expect the ice to be off the lake early this year, maybe even by this weekend.
East Hill Sites
April 15, 2010
East Hill Sites We interrupted "the boys" to pose for a picture. They are busy working on the east hill sites and finding lots of trees rotten on the inside. The area will still have lots of trees, but many sites will be enlarged, leveled and cleaned up ready to be a new seasonal home. We are up to 37 new seasonals now, so the meet and greet should be fun."

Welcome to our thirty new seasonals to date...we are looking forward to sharing our “special place”, making new friends and catching up with old friends...
With the demand, we are starting to rent on the east hill, so if you have any desire to move, let us know! We don’t have all the site numbers yet as Rick & the boys are just starting this week to enhance the sites: size & leveling, cutting trees & a little gravel. Please Note: No upgrades on power or sewer. However we are including the cost of having your tanks emptied when necessary with a maximum of two times per week in July and August and once per week during the other months.
One other update relates to picnic tables. We have a total of approximately 200. Not everyone wants or needs one and since we do not want to continue maintaining them, we are going to do one last paint and fix ‘em job then sell for $25.00 on a first come, first serve basis. If you have a table on your site and wish to keep that particular one – contact the office to let them know not to take the table off site and arrange for payment.
We are open on the weekends in April in the office 9-4 to accommodate people looking at seasonal sites and cabins. It may be possible for you to move your RV in early so if this interests you, kindly call the office to confirm.
That’s it for now. Please don’t hesitate to call us or email with comments or questions or to just say “Hello”, we’re here to help...
April Newsletter

APRIL NEWSLETTER
We’re off to a good start with two thirds of our available sites rented out. Once the east hill (previous overnight sites in red on the site map) come online (the boys are making improvements) we will have more to offer. Cabins are also still available for monthly or seasonal rental. We are in the office April 1, 3, 4 & 5 from 9-4; alternatively call us to set up a time and we will try to accommodate you. We are pleased to have Sharon and Carole back this season to help you with all your questions with Lynda joining the team later on. Stop by and say hello, we’re here to help!
Our official opening date is May 1st when we are open daily. May long is our first full-service weekend with longer hours. Wanda will cook to order on the week-ends only as we expect to be busy on the weekends and much quieter during the week, so hours of operation and level of service and stock in the store are going to be decided as we go. Feel free to give advice, comments or opinions either to Deb or look for the blue suggestion box on the store counter...
We’re also very happy to welcome Barry back to head up our security. He’s going to need a little help so let Deb know if you would like to find out more about keeping Leisure safe and secure.
We are still searching for that perfect Activities Director who will make a difference in the lives of our Leisure kids while having fun doing it! We also have an opening for a part-time store clerk, must be minimum 18 years of age. Contact Deb for more information.
In the last couple of days with the heat and wind, the last of the snow has disappeared and the park is drying out nicely. The guys are looking forward to getting in the ground early - they are unloading machinery as I write this!
The last words go to our Kim who is heading up the Leisure Social Club...
We are in the very early stages of putting together a Social Club. This is a group of volunteers that will work on different ideas for fund raising, activities and events for the families and members of the park. If you have any ideas that you would like to share, or maybe are interested in volunteering, let us know! We are looking forward to the 2010 camping season and are hoping to make it an enjoyable, safe summer.

GREETINGS OF THE SEASON
January 4, 2010
GREETINGS OF THE SEASON,
As we write, the sun is shining brightly off all the drifts of snow and we are enjoying a balmy -19 degrees! Certainly a welcome change from the deep-freeze we were in earlier...
Our special news is to introduce the new owners of Leisure, who are Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities, if you go to www.parkbridge.ca you will see they are a large company owning properties in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and moving into B.C. Leisure will be their first resort property in Alberta. Parkbridge have been a pleasure to work with during the changeover and we will be staying on as managers to help with a smooth transition as well as finishing some of the projects we started. So that means gearing up in the spring to build 80+ new sites as well as a swimming pool!
Parkbridge would like to make Leisure a top class resort on Pine Lake and with all the work ahead we are making the change to all-seasonal. For some time now we have been researching this idea and from all reports the result is a more relaxed and manageable community to live and work in. All overnight sites will become seasonal and yes, we will be doing some work on many to facilitate this change. What this means for you as seasonals is that there will be some lovely sites opening up this coming year.
Your family and friends will still have the opportunity to camp in the group area on the old golf course. Cabins will be rented either for the season, or by the month. In late February we’ll send out another letter with more details or you can check the website as will be posted under Activities/Newsletters. We will maintain waitlists for new seasonals or to change sites so feel free to pass along this info to those special people in your life.
Our direction is clear: to continue with operations so that you as seasonals have a beautiful, clean, well run park in which to spend your summer. We are excited about the improvements to Leisure, our new owners who have been gracious and kind and look forward to the seasonal lifestyle on Pine Lake.
